Merge Your Large Screen Television with Your Living Room Decor

If you don't have the luxury of a family room, then you're probably watching TV in your living room. And yet, how can you merge your large screen television with your living room decor?

After all, a large television can be a real eyesore if left to its own devices. The following solutions are my favorites, and ones that I used in my different homes.

Entertainment Center

Perhaps the most common way to merge your large screen television with your living room decor is to place an entertainment center against your wall. But in many cases, the unit is too large for the room, and the overall appearance is cumbersome.

You can achieve real decorating harmony, however, if you choose the right entertainment center. Select a unit that fits in with your decor, both in style and color. Secondly, fill your entertainment center sparingly.

If you leave the shelves half empty and decorate your entertainment center with decorative items, not only will you merge your large screen television with your living room decor, but you will create the impression that your entertainment center is a display unit for beautiful things.

TV Lift Cabinets

TV lift cabinets offer the perfect way not simply to merge your large screen television with your living room decor but to hide it completely. The cabinets look like a console and come in a range of designs from ornate wood carved models to modern, black or white designs.

When you want to watch TV, the console lifts your television mechanically. Then when you’re done, you press your remote control again and the TV lift cabinet lowers your large screen television into the cabinet until it disappears.

You can place decorative items atop your TV lift cabinet, to complete the illusion of merging your large screen television with your living room decor; although you will obviously have to move these items before lifting your TV to the surface of the cabinet.

Large Screen TV Armoire

Traditional TV armoires were once bulky because of their enormous depth. Now, however, large screen TV armoires offer a wonderful way of merging your large screen television with your living room decor. Long and thin, the armoires conceal your television completely, while adding beauty to your room.

Be sure to choose a TV armoire that suites your decor. Remember that a light armoire will seem less bulky, so if your living room is small consider selecting a white unit. In addition, be sure to position your armoire in a location that will allow you to swing the armoire doors sideways.

Finally, remember that the armoire is there not merely to merge your large screen television with your living room decor but to make viewing easy. Therefore, don’t place the unit in the path of direct sunlight, which will shine on the screen and blur the TV image.

Concealed TV Niche

A TV niche offers you a simple way of merging your large screen television with your living room decor. Consider covering the niche by installing a bamboo blind over the opening. At a home improvement store you’ll find cheap bamboo blinds manufactured in standard (rather than custom) sizes.

Choose a size that’s wide and long enough to cover your TV niche. Install the blind over the niche. Then roll down the blind when you’re not watching TV, to merge your large screen television with your living room decor.
