Decorating with Bright Colors

Bright color decorating is perfect for spring and summer. See the before and after pictures of a single room decorated in white but soon decorated again with bright colors.

White and sandy hues are commonly used to decorate our homes. They are beautiful but somewhat bland. Like a pretty face without a smile.

To illustrate the point, look at this room, decorated in bland colors. It is beautiful. And yet, if you haven't noticed already... it is the same room featured above. Now compare, which room looks as if it's smiling?

Bright color decorating ideas

How to know if bright color decorating is for you?

First off, if you prefer the pale version of the room to the bright one above, you have your answer. Decorating with bright colors isn't for you.

Secondly, you have to be a little daring to decorate your home with bright colors. You have to fall in love with yellow or orange and go for it, even if you feel butterflies fluttering in your stomach.

Where should you decorate with bright colors?

Bright colors look beautiful in large, open floor plans. So for example, this room looked beautiful when painted in lime, while the backdrop of the open staircase was painted in yellow.

Conversely, painting a closed, small room in a bright color might be over-powering. In such a case, consider altering your bright decorating technique. Paint one accent wall only in a bright hue. Or paint half the wall to its mid-point, leaving the top pale. You can then cover the intersection of chair rail molding.

How to Blend Bright Color Decorating with Your Room?

Remember that bright color decorating has a loud presence. Therefore, keep your furnishings simple by comparison. Otherwise the room might feel like very thing in it is yelling all at once.

Use pale slipcovers to cover garish upholstery. Paint wooden furniture in eggshell white. And replace a bold rug with a bland one.

Finally, complete your bright color decorating by echoing the wall's hues with decorative pillows. These will act like pools of color against your bland furniture.
